A common excitement cycle for ideas are: - think of an idea - seems to be extremely promising - get excited about it - see somebody else has already implemented it - get demotivated - drop the idea Instead of getting demotivated, and dropping the idea, you should first ask: - why aren't you, or people you know, using this persons solution - does your solution provide [[alpha]] for the user - has something changed? If so, [[why now]] - is this persons implementation really [[the same thing]] as your idea? - can you do it better? - how much better could it be? - can you do it differently? - is the difference [[appeal|appealing]] You must make sure not to [[fool yourself]] when you ask yourself these questions, in the case the idea is really bad, or already explored enough by the other implementation. Though, it's equally important to not prematurely kill ideas
